I want to see when Atom Egoyan's new film is playing this weekend. I go to Moviefone to accomplish this, and Moviefone tries to make it as hard as possible to do so. See, in case you don't already know, there's a little box on every page that lets you search for a movie or enter your zip code to get listings for your area. I'm willing to bet this is how most people use the site, and so it's appropriately placed right at the top for all to see.
Today I didn't see it, because instead, all I saw was this:
That's a floating Flash advertisement for the DVD release of Will Ferrell's stupid soccer movie (sorry Will). There's no way to close this advertisement or make it disappear. My only recourse was to click on a link to a subpage (I swear I'm not at all interested in Elizabethtown) to get access to that stupid box.
Limiting access to your front page and what is probably its most crucial function for most of your site's visitors doesn't seem like the smartest idea.
Anybody got any suggestions for a better film listings site? Is there some crazy google maps/tickets mash-up out there I don't know about?

I always use movies.yahoo.com
It probably gets the info from elsewhere, but it's easy enough to navigate, and usually does me good.

Google!
Do a search for movie : zip code for a listing of movies in your area. It defaults to sorting by theatre.

hot damn! that google tip is awesome.

Don't apologize to Will. I just saw the trailer for Curious George, and I sat through the excruciating Bewitched. He's made more money from lending his name to crap than Chris Rock and David Cross combined.
Not that I don't like all three of them....but still...

So I used that google tip....
Does it disturb anyone else that "My Little Pony: The Movie" is playing at THREE theatres in the Los Angeles area?
I swear I wasn't looking for it... it just came up when I put in my zip code.

My Little Pony the movie? Is this new?
I thought you were joking, until I googled it in. I'm so confused.

Speaking of maps/tickets and mash-ups, try www.mashmap.com. It'll even give you cool Google Earth satellite layouts if you're into that sort of thing.

the best place for movies is rottentomatoes.com as far as I am concerned. They also aggregate movie reviews from tons of sources (including individuals).
Also since flash advertisements ruin my day you should use Firefox for your web browser and then get the "AdBlock" extension which allows you to remove ad's via a filter including flash.

I actually just disabled AdBlock a couple of weeks ago because, after months of use, I determined it's what was crashing Firefox on a semi-regular basis. So, while I appreciate its usefulness, I think I might wait a while before treading those waters again.
Also, mashmap = awesome. I knew something like that had to exist.
