Monsters of the Deep

April 19, 2006

Some people appear to be skeptical of the veracity of that terrifying video clip I linked to. I received this email from my good friend Brad, for those doubters:

So I didn't really believe the link you put on your site about the squids. But:

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/octopus/chameleons.html

I'll start converting the basement into a squid shelter. As in, bomb shelter. Not as in animal shelter, where I'd keep orphaned squids.

That's good advice, and advice everyone should heed. I've tried to sound the warning bell with each new cephalopod terror alert I've seen, but I don't get the sense that people are taking this seriously. But maybe this is the thing to wake you people up. These are ninja powers! They take to land, and we're screwed.

I'm hoping Brad gets on that squid shelter double-time, because it might also need to be a shark shelter, too. Here's a recent actual, real photo* of the latest terror from the ocean's waters (click to see the full image):

hoo boy.

*Note = photo may not be real. This may, in fact, be key art for what will be the best shark film like, ever. Or at least since Deep Blue Sea.
